12:00-12:50 p.m. Attending to the Aesthetic in your teaching-Part II Ð Rm. H-154

AANJ Presenter:  Richard Siegel, Ed. D., Kean College Field Supervisor

 

This hands-on experience will be Part II of planning for aesthetics in your art lesson.  It is built upon from last yearÕs AENJ presentation- providing two hands-on classroom activities. 

 

 

3:00-3:50 p.m. The Student Work Sample:  Part of the NEW requirements for todayÕs Visual Arts Students Graduating from Kean University-Rm. H-154

AANJ Presenter:  Richard Siegel, Ed. D., Kean College Field Supervisor

 

This workshop will explain the new portfolio requirement for Kean UniversityÕs student teachers, which includes the creating of an Educational Portfolio that includes a Teachers Work Sample.  The intern plans for instruction with information gathered about the context of the school, the students, the course, the design of the lesson, the delivery of instruction, and the assessment of student progress.

Do you look at your districtÕs evaluation document and wonder how it pertains to you?  Allow two supervisors Ð one from an urban district and the other from a suburban district describe exactly what they are looking for when they evaluate art teachers.  This is a great inside look at the other side!

 

1:00-1:50 p.m. Getting Through Your First Year of Teaching-Rm. H 164-166

AANJ Presenter:  Christine High, District Arts Supervisor in Bernards Township

 

This workshop, presented by the Art Administrators of New Jersey, will fill you in on ten handy tips for getting through that first year, plus other helpful clues; things like: what to do the first day, the phases of the year, attributes of a good teacher, expectations, responsibilities, discipline approaches, and survival skills.

 

2:00-2:50 pm. Emerging Artists, A High School Art Exhibit, sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey-Rm. H164-166

AANJ Presenter, Chris High, Exhibit Chairperson

 

This year will be the 20th annual Emerging Artists Exhibit, sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey.  This exhibit presents artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout the state of New Jersey.  The works are judged and Awards of Merit and Honorable Mention are presented to the student artists.  Award recipients are eligible to submit a portfolio of images and compete in the Art AdministratorsÕ Achievement Award program in which one student is selected to receive additional cash recognition and a Governor's Award in the spring. 

 

1:00-1:50 p.m. The Three Dimensions of an Art Educator-Rm. H-154

AANJ Presenter:  Mary Anne Morgan, Visual Arts Supervisor in Sterling High School, Somerdale

 

Student teachers, art education majors, first year or Ônew to the professionÕ teachers you are invited join in a round table discussion on the three-dimensions of an arts educator.  We will define what an educational team is and your possible role in it; how to establish your own professional image; and how to build staff and administrative partnerships to build a successful arts program.

What does a supervisor look for when interviewing an art candidate?  What are some questions asked in an interview?  How can you show off your knowledge and skills?
